I saw a comment on Facebook today that disturbed
me. There was a death, and the comment was meant to console. “God only takes
the best ones,” it said.
I cringed.
It bothered me so much that I blocked the person
who made the comment.
I think it even made me angry.
I’ve seen many such comments, and heard them at
funerals.
“The good ones die young.”
Does God take the best ones? Are all the survivors
inferior somehow?
If the good ones die young, are all the old ones
bad?
Perhaps it’s just harmless talk, meant to make
loved ones feel better about their loss.
Then again, it may be that people believe such
things.
What a poor opinion they have of themselves.
